- Wednesday 6:30pm 8/9/10 - Park training with Sempai Jo
- Saturday 8:30am 11/9/10 - Sensei Dom

02.09.2010 - Dojo update
I have looked at a few places yesterday, one is quite promising and I will be looking at 4 places tomorrow. I have spoken with several leasing agents from different companies and they are all looking for suitable sites. As I mentioned I don’t want to rush into the site as we need to find a place that we can stay for at least a decade. In the meantime look out for park training sessions and get involved when ever you can to keep your fitness up.

31.08.10 - New Dojo Update
Sensei Dom has been busy at work with regards to finding the Brisbane Dojo a new home. At the moment he has 2 commercial leasing companies out searching for new locations. Sensei Dom is already reviewing potential spots.
Please keep your eyes of the website, facebook or twitter for updates as we go about finding our new home!
31.08.10 - Training Wednesday
Sempai Jo and Sempai Carlos will be doing some training on Wednesday. All are welcome to come along. Meet at the front of the dojo at 6.30pm to head over to the park for an hour. No dogis - just wear casual clothes, running shoes and bring a towel and some water.
30.08.10 - IMPORTANT NEWS
Dojo is temporarily closing until a new location can be found
Hi All
After 7 years at 146 Petrie Tce, I regret to inform everyone that the Brisbane dojo is leaving our current premises. I will be looking for another location and so hopefully we won’t be out of a place for too long.
Our final day is tomorrow 31 August, so our last class here will be tonight. I apologise for the late notice and hope to have a new location soon. This will be the Brisbane dojos 7th move in the past 25 years and so will start another chapter in our training.
Consequently the September grading will be postponed until we are in our new premises. I thank you all for your understanding.
Osu
Regards
Dom
NOTE: Please keep watch on the website for updates on the move!!

17.08.10 - Women's Classes - 2 week break
Sempai Jo is away for 2 weeks so the women's classes will be postponed during this time. However Sempai Jo would like you to still come in and train earlier, just working on your own techniques or working together.
The Women's Classes will start back up at the dojo on the 30th of August.
12.08.10 - 2010 Australian Titles – Brisbane puts on a great show

A big congratulations to all involved in Sundays National titles. The Brisbane dojo won the 3 divisions and overall we did ourselves very proud.
Firstly well done to our recently inherited member, Carlos Castro. Carlos took out the heavy weight division by beating the seasoned Simon Kennedy in one round. Carlos overwhelmed Simon with powerful low kicks and evading Simon’s very quick head kicks. Carlos finished the day with his Grand Champion bout against Steven Cujic who took the final honours. Carlos did himself and the Brisbane dojo very proud.
Steven Cujic is certainly making a name for himself around the world and for taking out yet another super heavy weight titleslAustralian titles.
Nathan Goodin also fought in the heavy weight, possibly slowed down by all that hair. After winning his first fight he came up against Simon Kennedy who was too good for Nathan, who didn’t quite find his rhythm. It was great to see Nathan back on the matts after being in Melbourne for the past year.
Peter Chiricosta took out the middleweight division and good form. He defeated our very own Jeff Ainsworth in the finals with powerful kidney punches. Pete certainly showed some great speed to win the division. Jeff surprised himself by defeating his first 2 opponents in quick succession. He fought a very smart fight to overcome his opponents with great skill. It was a really top effort by both Pete and Jeff and both have come away with invaluable experience.
Shaune took his first round against his younger NZW opponent, Mark Radic who showed great courage to step up to the open weight division. Mark fought extremely well against Shaune who is a far more experienced fighter. Unfortunately Shaune injured his back attempting a roll kick in the dying seconds of his bought against Mark and was unable to continue in the tournament.
In the novice middle weight division our own French connection Paul Emile Durand took the title defeating both of his opponents. Great work Pauly. Its also worth mentioning Vincent who fought in the novice lightweight division. Vincent has trained very hard and although has only been with the Brisbane dojo and in fact Kyokushin, a very short time he has already competed in 2 tournaments. This is what I mean about just getting involved – its all about getting experience to develop and grow your karate.
Lastly I would like to mention our little warrior Shonosuke Haraguchi. As we know Shonosuke is the current under 40kgs World Champion. He obviously didn’t have much trouble taking out the Australian Titles winning against a few older fighters. Shonosuke is an extradinary talent and its great having him around.
Thanks to everyone at the dojo who helped out. It’s a long day if your not fighting and just working so thanks again.
With only 16 months to the 10th World Open Tournament – we need to get started with our preparations.
Next up we have the Annual Sept black belt grading.

10.08.10 - Update on Naoya
For those of you who are wondering how Naoya Otani is going back in Japan... he is once again fighting in the All Japan tournament (another group... boo...) this year. Still only a lightweight at 72kg though!
If you didn't train with Naoya you probably missed out on getting kicked in the head as he had an amazing high kick and an equally amazing training spirit! You will see a set of framed gloves mounted in the dojo from Naoya that he left with us before he returned to Japan.
Good Luck Naoya!

20.07.10 - Closing Date for Nationals
Just a reminder that this Friday the 23rd is the closing date for applications for this year's Australian Kyokushin Karate Championships.
So if you haven't got your applications in then now would be a good time to get organised. Remember that there are Novice and Open divisions, so if you haven't fought before or have only tried it once before then this is a great event to have a go!
Also there is a Kata division. This is a great way to showcase your kata skills!! Those of you who are grading in September, this might be a good chance to show off how well you are doing!
18.07.10 - 10th World Tournament Date Announced

The 10th World Karate Championship's tournament date has been announced by Honbu as Friday 4th to Sunday 6th, November 2011.
Also announced is that they will hold the International Friendship Karate Championship of 2011 on Thursday the 3rd of November, making it a 4 day event for fans of Kyokushin Karate.
With Sempai Carlos and Sempai Shaune training so hard at the moment we hope to see them make the South Pacific team and it will be great to have some support in Japan for them at the tournament. So it might be a good time to start booking in holidays at work!
08.07.10 - Winter Grading Results
The Winter grading results are now available on the grading page. Congratualtions to all who have achieved new ranks!
Next up is the Nationals. We are the hosts so we need to put on a great show. Sensei Dom is looking for volunteers on the day so if you are able to assist please let Sensei Dom know.
07.07.10 - Saturday 10th July
Please note that Sensei Dom will be taking this Saturday's training class. It has been a while since Sensei Dom has taken Saturday's class so expect a good one! No lazing around that is for sure! See you there
07.07.10 - 1 hour class tonight
Tonight is the final match of State of Origin with Queensland looking to complete a clean sweep of the blues!
As usual, because of the State of Origin game, we will have a 1 hour class tonight. 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
06.07.10 - Sensei Teixeira in Australia

This weekend the 9th World Open Karate Champion, Sensei Ewerton Teixeira, will be in Canberra fighting in a super fight at K-1 Oceania.
He will be fighting Alex Roberts of Kujyuken-kaikan. His background is fighting in shoot boxing and other kickboxing promotions in Japan. He has a 10-2 record in Kickboxing with 8 wins by knockout! However, this is only his second fight in K-1 with his previous being a loss to another great Kyokushin fighter, Glaube Feitosa, where he was knocked out by one of Glaube's famous high kicks!
This should be a tough fight for Sensei Teixeira with this being his first K-1 fight since the 2009 World GP Final where was was savagely knocked out by Alistair Overeem
Good luck Sensei Teixeira!

15.06.10 - All Japan Fighters Return

Congratulations to Sempai Steven, Carlos and Shaune who fought in Osaka on the weekend in the All Japan Weight Category Tournament.
Sempai Carlos and Shaune were unlucky, both fighting well, just missing out on the win via judges decision. Shaune even got the flag of famous fighter Tamura, but it just wasn't enough for the win. Steven did the best of the 3, making it through to the top 16 of his division, and narrowly loosing out on 3-0 to Russian fighter, Sergey Uvitskiy.
Carlos and Jo also completed the judging seminar on Friday night and they will bring a lot of new skills back to the club to pass on to the other members who are interested in judging tournaments.
Sensei Dom might have gone a little crazy at the Isami and Ichigeki shops - so look out for some new gear at the dojo!
It is always great to participate in international tournaments as you always make new friends and learn more about yourself and Kyokushin.
[Paul, Shaune, Jo, Keni, Adam, Carlos]
A special hello to our new friend Sempai Keni Vardin from Mauritius! An excellent fighter who spent time with Sempai Steven at the Hombu uchi-deshi program. Sempai Keni won through his first fight but lost in the next round on a very tough decision. It was great to meet you Sempai Keni! (p.s. Thanks for helping us get all the bags to the train station!)
Also thanks must go to Sensei Dom for looking after everyone and Sempai Jo, Paul and Adam for acting as seconds to the fighters, ensuring that they were ready to go when they hit the mat!
Look out for photos etc coming soon
More information on the All Japan tournament page.
15.06.10 - Congratulations to Adam Doolan
The latest addition to the Kyokushin Brisbane family is Eamon John Doolan, born 6am 11/06/2010. Congratulations to Adam and Emma on their new baby and we will be looking forward to seeing Eamon in the Dojo in the coming years!
14.06.10 - Wednesday State of Origin 2
This Wednesday the 16th of June is State of Origin Round 2 in Brisbane and as usual we will be holding a short training session from 6:30 to 7:30pm. With there being no Monday night class this week and Sensei Dom just getting back from Japan expect it to be a hard and fast session!

09.06.10 - No training Monday 14th June
There will be no training at all (including women's class) on the public holiday on Monday 14th of June as Sensei Dom and Sempai Jo will be in Japan.
Sensei Dom will be back for Wednesday night's training and he is promising that he will make up for the missed class on Monday, so Wednesday the 16th should be a great class!
08.06.10 - Good luck Carlos and Shaune

Tonight was the last training session for Sempai Carlos and Shaune before they compete in this weekend's All Japan Weight Category Tournament in Osaka. They have both trained extremely hard (tonight was no exception!!!) and whatever the result this weekend they should be proud of their efforts

Sempai Carlos said tonight that he wanted to thank everyone at the dojo for helping Shaune and himself prepare for this tournament. In the end it is an individual event once they get on the matt and they will fight their best, but there was no way they would make it to the matt without the support of the dojo. He also said that he hopes that Shaune and himself can do the same for the people that helped them in the future as well.
Sensei Dom will lead Carlos and Shaune in Japan, supported by Sempai Jo, Paul, Jeff and Adam.
Good luck to Sempai Carlos and Shaune and see you all at the dojo next week!
07.06.10 - Winter Grading Date Change - 3rd July
Please note that the Winter Grading's date has been changed from the 26th of June to the 3rd of July.
Class on the 26th of June will be as normal.
With the countdown now on until the grading on the 3rd of July it is important that you know the requirements for your grading and that you are working on these specifically for the next 4 weeks. Please ask an instructor if you are unsure of what is required for your grading.
04.06.10 - Saturday's Class and Grading
Grading is only 3 weeks to go and with my committment still to the Bardon Bandicoots on Saturday morning's I have asked Sempai Jo to take tomorrow morning's class.
Those of you who are grading will want to get a long as Jo will take you through a good balanced class.
Osu! Dom
01.06.10 - Shonosuke in World Karate Magazine

Shonosuke Haraguchi from the club was intereviewed in the latest edition of the World Karate Magazine based on his win at the recent International Youth Karate Tournament. It has been a while since a Kyokushin Brisbane fighter was mentioned in the magazine. Hopefully we will see some more coverage in next month's issue after Sempai Carlos and Shaune fight in the All Japan next week.

Shonsuke said that he was 2nd last year so he really wanted to win this tournament. He had been doing mitt punch training especially. He thought Matsuoka-kun was coming to the final so in the final Shonsuke used a lot of different techniques and was very strong and took the win (Mastuoka was second). Shonsuke said he will try to win next year too! Matusoka is a good rival of Shonosuke. The final was close but Shonosuke got a wazari with a geidan kick.
27.05.10 - All Japan Draw released
The draw for the 27th All Japan Weight Category Tournament in Osaka was released today. Sempai Steven, Carlos and Shaune are scheduled to all fight fighters from the Tokyo Josai brach so it won't be an easy run!

26.05.10 - State of Origin - Short training
Tonight's class will be a 1 hour session from 6:30 to 7:30pm due to the State of Origin being on tonight.
Sensei Dom always loves the short classes so expect a hard session!
P.S. Go the Maroons!!
20.05.10 - 2010 Australian Nationals
The date for this year's Australia Nationals will be the 8th August 2010. It will be hosted by Kyokushin Brisbane. In addition to the standard categories there should be a kata event and colts and kids categories - depending on demand.
This will be another great chance for all Kyokushin Brisbane members to step up and have a go. If you missed out on fighting in the State Titles this is your chance! If you are interested in fighting them please see one of the Senseis and let them know your intention sooner rather than later!
04.05.10 - Visitors from Norway
Brisbane dojo recently welcomed Sensei Johnny and Sempai Lin from Norway during their trip down under.
For those who remember, Sensei Johnny spent many years with Brisbane Dojo at West End. He was an integral member and provided valuable experience for those who worked with him on their kumite, kata, technique, discipline, etc.
It was great to have him back along with Sempai Lin and to get some new perspectives on self defence, kata and training in general as well as to watch some excellent displays of sharp technique
We look forward to welcoming them again in the future
Osu! Sempai Jo
